Before you install
Requirements
MotionPipeline's launch baseline is deliberately current so templates can use modern Motion features and receive reliable support.
Step 1
Install a generator
Quit Final Cut Pro, unzip your download, and keep the complete
template folder intact. A generator includes its .motn
project and may also include preview images or media assets.
- In Finder, choose Go → Home, then open Movies.
-
Open
Motion Templates.localized, thenGenerators.localized. Create either folder with that exact name if it does not exist. -
Inside
Generators.localized, create or open the category folderMotionPipeline. -
Move the entire downloaded template folder into
MotionPipeline—not the.motnfile by itself. - Open Final Cut Pro.
Do not drag a .motn file into Final Cut Pro's browser.
Final Cut Pro discovers custom templates from the Motion Templates
folder in your user account.
Step 2
Find it in Final Cut Pro
- Open the Titles and Generators sidebar.
- Select Generators.
- Choose the MotionPipeline category. All installed MotionPipeline generators appear together here.
- Drag the generator onto the timeline and adjust its published controls in the Inspector.
The category is created by the folder structure above. No separate plug-in manager or background application is needed.
Typography
Install the included fonts first
A template's typography is part of its design. MotionPipeline products may therefore include selected open-license font files rather than depending exclusively on fonts bundled with macOS. Every product lists its required fonts and includes the applicable font license.
- Quit Final Cut Pro and Motion.
-
Open the download's Fonts folder and double-click
each
.otfor.ttffile. - Choose Install in Font Book.
- Reopen Final Cut Pro after installation.
Using your template
Customize in Final Cut Pro
Published controls—such as title, episode label, accent color, logo, and animation options—appear in the Final Cut Pro Inspector. Apple Motion is not needed for normal use.
Optional: edit the source in Motion
If a product includes editable source and you have a compatible version of Motion, right-click the generator in Final Cut Pro and choose Open a copy in Motion. Work on a copy so product updates cannot overwrite your customization.

Troubleshooting
The MotionPipeline category does not appear
Quit and reopen Final Cut Pro. Confirm the template is inside
~/Movies/Motion Templates.localized/Generators.localized/MotionPipeline/
and that you copied the complete template folder.
The preview is red or shows an alert symbol
Update Final Cut Pro and macOS, then compare your versions with the product's requirements. A template saved with a newer version of Motion may not open in an older Final Cut Pro release.
The text looks different from the product preview
Install the font files supplied with the product, then restart Final Cut Pro. In Font Book, check that the required family and weights are enabled and do not have unresolved duplicates.
